David Lat first appeared on the national media scene in November 2005, in the pages of the New Yorker magazine. In a Talk of the Town piece, longtime legal-affairs writer Jeffrey Toobin revealed David’s identity as the previously pseudonymous author of Underneath Their Robes, a widely read and highly influential blog offering “news, gossip, and colorful commentary about the federal judiciary.”

Since then, David has been the subject of steady and extensive media coverage, including profiles in the New York Times, Details magazine, the National Law Journal, and the ABA Journal, the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association. He has also been interviewed or quoted as a legal expert by a wide range of broadcast, print, and online media outlets, discussing topics such as the Supreme Court and federal judiciary, law firms and the business of law, law schools and legal education, and his personal experience with the novel coronavirus and Covid-19.
